Under the theme “Go Smart! Go Tech! Go Green!”, this year’s event features exhibits representing local innovation and technology (I&T) achievements.
Officiating at the opening ceremony, Financial Secretary Paul Chan said that cultivating I&T talent and fostering an environment in the community that is conducive to I&T have been vital to boosting Hong Kong’s I&T development.
He told carnival attendees that the Government’s efforts to proactively attract strategic enterprises have brought an inflow of companies and talent, helping the Greater Bay Area to become a world-class international I&T centre.
He also noted that the Chief Executive had proposed a range of measures in his latest Policy Address to foster I&T development, and said these could help accelerate the commercialisation of research and development outcomes, as well as the development of I&T industrialisation.
In terms of green technology, Mr Chan pointed out that Hong Kong has nurtured high-quality green tech enterprises which have now expanded their operations overseas.
Supported by over 50 partners, the carnival features around 40 booths showcasing Hong Kong’s I&T achievements and offering attractions such as interactive games.
Some 150 workshops and over 30 webinars are being staged, with the aim of showing the public the relevance of I&T in daily life, and inspiring young people to pursue knowledge in STEM (science, technology, engineering and mathematics) subjects.
All activities are free of charge, although some require pre-registration.
