Secretary for Culture, Sports & Tourism Kevin Yeung said today he is confident that with concerted efforts from all sectors in Hong Kong, the city will be able to attract more tourists.
Mr Yeung told reporters after speaking on a radio programme that the Government’s promotion of tourism will continue.
“We will continue to promote our tourism through organising more major events (such as) exhibitions (and) conferences,” he said. “Also, we will have a lot of promotions on our various tourist attractions, including our culture, as well as green tourism. All these will be very attractive to tourists.”
The culture secretary added that the Government is doing additional work to attract tourists to visit locations and districts not traditionally associated with tourism.
He said: “The tourists nowadays seem to be more diverse in terms of what they want to do in Hong Kong. The young tourists are more (attracted) to different aspects in our city. They actually go to small districts and may enjoy the environment or atmosphere there.
“We have also been doing some special works in different districts, say (if for example) we are having an art installation going to be opened in Tsuen Wan very soon.”
Regarding new measures to support the Kai Tak Cruise Terminal, Mr Yeung said these had helped tourists access public transport or taxis more quickly after being introduced. He added that the arrival of a relatively large cruise ship next Saturday would provide a further test of the measures.
