HK logs 19k COVID-19 cases

The Centre for Health Protection today said it is investigating 19,863 additional locally acquired COVID-19 cases, of which 2,737 were identified through nucleic acid tests and 17,126 via rapid antigen tests.   Separately, 367 imported cases were detected.   Nineteen residential care homes for the elderly and nine for disabled people logged 31 cases involving their residents as well as six infections among staff.   In addition to reporting that 74 patients passed away in public hospitals due to the coronavirus, the Hospital Authority registered 23 more critical patients, bringing the number of patients in critical condition to 202.   As there were positive sewage test results with relatively high viral loads in several areas of Sha Tin and Wong Tai Sin districts, the respective district offices will distribute COVID-19 rapid test kits to relevant residents as well as cleaning workers and property management staff working there.   The Office of the Government Chief Information Officer announced that following the relaxation of various anti-epidemic measures, the LeaveHomeSafe hotline 2626 3066 and the mobile support stations at 25 MTR stations for supporting the Vaccine Pass will cease operation from January 8.   For information and health advice on COVID-19, visit the Government’s dedicated webpage.
