Jab services for elderly to expand

The Government today announced that its same-day ticket arrangement for COVID-19 vaccination services for the elderly will be expanded to cover people aged 60 or above starting August 11.   Tickets will be issued at 24 community vaccination centres (CVCs) so that citizens aged 60 or older can receive COVID-19 jabs at a designated timeslot on the same day the tickets are distributed.   The Government said it decided to extend the arrangement to cover more seniors because distributing same-day tickets to people aged 70 or above has been running smoothly at the CVCs since July 29.   Senior citizens can be accompanied by a maximum of two carers who can also get vaccinated at the same, it added.   The same-day tickets will be distributed daily from 7.45am on a first come, first served basis. The CVCs will be closed between 1.30pm and 2.30pm daily for cleaning and disinfection and the last vaccination session will be held from 7pm to 7.30pm.   Those aged 60 or above can present their Hong Kong identity cards to get a same-day ticket at the CVCs. Alternatively, family members or carers can collect a ticket on their behalf upon presenting a copy of the authoriser’s ID card for registration. The schedule for receiving the second dose will be drawn up when the senior citizen gets the first jab.   About 4,600 same-day tickets will be given out daily at the 24 CVCs in August. In light of the latest operational arrangements, the CVCs at Queen Elizabeth Stadium, Ap Lei Chau Sports Centre and Hong Kong International Airport will distribute the tickets till August 31.
